Casey McGrath


Casey holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Violin Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she was a student of Stefan Milenkovich. She received her Master of Music degree in violin performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 2007, where she studied with both Kurt Sassmannshaus and Brittany MacWilliams, and her Bachelor of Music in performance at Butler University as a student of Larry Shapiro. She is also a current and long-time student of Drew Lecher.

Casey currently serves as concertmaster for the Fox Valley Orchestra (Aurora, IL), concertmaster of the Dupage Symphony (Naperville, IL), first violinist for the Navitas String Quartet, and violin soloist for Tango Espejo, an ensemble dedicated to the work of Astor Piazzolla. She performs regularly with the New Philharmonic (Chicago) and the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared with the Elgin Symphony, the New Millennium Philharmonic, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the Lafayette, Kokomo and Marion Symphony Orchestras, the Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific (2005), the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy (2006), and the Fox Valley Philharmonic, serving as the Phil’s concertmaster for both its 2008 and 2009 seasons. She has also appeared as violinist for the Antiqua Baroque Consort, an authentic Baroque ensemble.

Casey has performed as soloist with the Fox Valley Orchestra, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, the Joliet Symphony, the Fox Valley Philharmonic, and the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra. She is currently on the applied music faculty in violin and viola at Lewis University, the University of St. Francis, Joliet Junior College, as well as the Lincoln-Way and Naperville High School districts.

A committed recitalist, Casey performs frequently in the Chicago area and acts as adjudicator, masterclass instructor, and guest clinician for many local high school, junior high, and youth symphony orchestras. Aside from music, Casey enjoys skydiving, writing, and spending time with her husband and their two retrievers, Jack and Sophia.
